Privacy Policy
Last updated: 13 October 2026
This policy explains what the Polyglot Pro iPhone app and this website collect, why, who else handles it, and what you can do about it.
On this page
In short
- We keep what the app needs to work: your account, your stories and your progress.
- What you say or type for a story is sent to OpenAI, which writes the story and your teacher’s explanations. Google makes the audio. Nothing is sent until you tap Agree in the app, and you can stop at any time.
- Recordings of your voice never reach us, with one exception: on an iPhone that can’t recognise Arabic, recordings in Arabic pass through our server to be turned into text, and we don’t store them.
- No ads, no tracking, no analytics. We never sell your data.
- You can delete your account, with your stories and progress, in the app at any time.
Who we are
Polyglot Pro is made by Greg Bruss (“we”, “us”). We decide how your personal data is used, which makes us the controller under data protection law.

What we collect and why
Your account
When you first open the app, it makes a guest account on your iPhone. A guest account has an account ID and no email address.
You can add Sign in with Apple, or sign in with a link sent to your email. We then keep your email address. With Sign in with Apple, Apple gives us an identifier for you and an email address, which can be a private relay address if you choose to hide yours. We don’t keep your name.
Your stories
A story starts with what you say or type about your life. The app turns your speech into text on your iPhone or through Apple, then sends the text to our server. We keep that text, the lines written from it in the language you are learning, their translations, and the story’s title, topic, language and level. We look at a story only when we need to: to answer you, to fix a problem, or to keep the service safe.
Explanations
For each line of a story, we write a short explanation in the language you chose. A teacher’s voice reads it when you ask for help with the line. We store the text and the voice of each explanation, so we don’t have to make them again.
Your progress and settings
We keep the lines you have said from memory and when, where you are in each story, the levels you have earned, your streak, the languages you learn, the language explanations are given in, and your answer to the AI question below with the time you gave it. This is how your progress, and your answer, follow you to another iPhone.
Your subscription
If you subscribe, Apple sends us a signed record of the purchase: the plan, its dates, its status and Apple’s transaction numbers. Your purchase carries your account ID, so it belongs to your account. We never see your card or payment details.
Emails
We use your email address only to send sign-in links and notices about your account. We don’t send newsletters, and we don’t share your address for marketing.
Technical data
Our server and database providers keep short technical logs, such as IP address, time, the address requested and any error. We also count how many stories and explanations each account asks for, so the service can’t be misused. We use these to keep the service running, safe and fair.
Your voice and the microphone
The app listens only while you hold the mic button.
- Most languages, and English. Apple’s speech recognition turns what you say into text. Depending on the language and your iPhone, this happens on your iPhone or on Apple’s servers, under Apple’s privacy policy. We receive only the text.
- Arabic, on some iPhones. Not every iPhone can recognise Arabic. On one that can’t, when you let go of the mic, the recording is sent to our server and passed to OpenAI, which turns it into text. We don’t store the recording.
We don’t keep any recording of your voice.
AI and voices
Before your first story, the app shows a card where the microphone would be. For someone learning German, it says: “We use OpenAI to turn what you say into a German story you can practise, and to write your teacher’s explanation of every line. We use Google to give you the audio of every line and its full explanation.” The card is titled “Your stories are written with AI” and has three buttons: Agree; Not now, which sends nothing and puts the card away until you try again; and Details, which shows what is sent and what is kept, and this policy. Your iPhone asks for the microphone and speech recognition separately, the first time you hold the mic to speak.
Nothing you say or type is sent to OpenAI or Google until you tap Agree, and the microphone and typing stay off until then. If you have not agreed, the app shows the card again before anything that needs AI: a new story, a new line, new sentences or an explanation. Your answer is kept with your account, so it applies on every iPhone you sign in to, and our server refuses to send anything to OpenAI or Google for an account that has not given it.
To stop, open Account, tap How your stories are made, then Stop using AI to teach my stories, and confirm. From then on nothing you say or type is sent to OpenAI or Google, on any iPhone signed in to your account. Your stories stay and you can keep practising them, and lines whose audio was already made keep playing from our store. Making new stories, adding lines and getting new explanations need your agreement again, and the app asks before any of them. Stopping does not undo what was sent before.
- OpenAI receives the text of what you say or type, the story’s language and level, the story’s earlier lines when you add to it, lines and their translations to explain, and Arabic recordings from iPhones that cannot recognise Arabic. Each request also carries a code made from your account ID, not your name or email, so OpenAI can spot misuse.
- Google (Gemini on Vertex AI) receives the text of story lines and explanations to read aloud, and how they should sound. It receives no account details.
We send this only so they can do the job and send the result back. We ask OpenAI not to store the requests that write stories and explanations. Under their terms for business customers, OpenAI and Google say they do not use this data to train their models. They may keep it for a limited time, for example to check for abuse.
Stories, explanations and transcripts are written by AI and can be wrong.
Your stories are about your life. Share only what you are comfortable with. Please leave out passwords, card numbers, and private details about other people. If you include something sensitive, such as your health or beliefs, we use it only to write and teach your story.
Why we are allowed to use your data
- To provide the app you signed up for (your account, stories, explanations, progress, subscription and account emails): this is needed to perform our agreement with you.
- To send your stories to OpenAI and Google: needed to perform our agreement, and the app asks you to agree first. You can withdraw it at any time, as described above.
- To keep the service secure and fair (logs, usage counts, the code sent to OpenAI): our legitimate interest in running a safe service.
- To meet legal duties, such as answering a lawful request from an authority: legal obligation.
You don’t have to give us any of this. But without what you say or type, the app cannot write your stories.
We don’t use your data for advertising or profiling, and we make no automated decisions about you with legal or similarly serious effects. The app grades how you say a line, but only to help you learn.
Who handles your data for us
These companies process data on our behalf, only to provide Polyglot Pro:
- Supabase: sign-in, our database and file storage. It holds your account, stories, progress, subscription status and explanations. Our database is in Frankfurt, Germany.
- Vercel: runs our server and this website. Everything the app sends to our server passes through Vercel.
- OpenAI: writes stories and explanations, and turns Arabic recordings into text on iPhones that cannot recognise Arabic. See above for what it receives.
- Google Cloud (Vertex AI): makes the voices. See above for what it receives.
- Resend: delivers our emails. It receives your email address and the email.
Apple provides Sign in with Apple, App Store payments and speech recognition under its own privacy policy.
We don’t sell your data or share it for advertising. We disclose data to others only if the law requires it. If Polyglot Pro is ever sold or passed to someone else, your data would go with it under this policy, and we would tell you first.
Data sent outside your country
Our database is in the European Union. Supabase, OpenAI, Google, Vercel, Resend and Apple are based in the United States or work with servers there, so some of your data is handled outside the EU. These companies protect transfers with safeguards the GDPR allows, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Email us to learn more.
How long we keep it
- Your account and stories: until you delete your account.
- Guest accounts: a guest account not used for 30 days is deleted, with its stories and progress.
- A deleted story: removed from your account at once. Its stored explanations and your practice record stay with your account until you delete the account.
- A deleted account: removed at once from our live database and storage. Copies can remain in our database provider’s backups for up to 7 days, until those backups expire.
- Arabic recordings: not stored by us.
- Voices of story lines: kept in a shared store, filed under a code made from the line’s text, with no link to your account or anyone’s. This saves voicing the same line twice. They are not removed when you delete your account. If you want a line’s voice removed, email us the line.
- Technical logs: a short time, as our providers keep them.
On your iPhone
The app keeps a copy of your stories and progress, voices it has played, your settings and your answer to the AI question on your iPhone, so it is quick and works on a weak connection. Signing out removes the copy of your answer; your account keeps it. Deleting the app removes all of them.
Deleting your account
On home, tap the circle with your initial at the top to open Account. Tap Delete account, then confirm.
This deletes your account, your stories, your progress and your stored explanations. It cannot be undone. It does not cancel a subscription bought through Apple, so cancel that in your App Store settings first. You can also stop using Sign in with Apple for Polyglot Pro in your Apple Account settings on iPhone.
To delete one story, touch and hold it on home, then tap Delete story.
You can also ask us by email to delete your account.
No tracking
The app shows no ads. It contains no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting tools from other companies. It doesn’t use your advertising identifier or track you across other apps and websites. This website doesn’t use cookies or analytics, and everything it loads, its fonts included, comes from polyglotpro.ai itself.
Your rights
Under the GDPR and similar laws, you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of your data (access),
- correct data that is wrong (correction),
- delete your data (deletion),
- send you your data in a common machine-readable format (portability),
- limit how we use your data (restriction),
- stop using your data where we rely on our legitimate interests (objection).
You can also withdraw your agreement to send what you say to AI, in the app: Account, How your stories are made, Stop using AI to teach my stories. Your stories stay until you delete them. This does not undo what was sent before.
To use any of these rights, email support@polyglotpro.ai from the address on your account. We reply within one month, free of charge. We may ask you to confirm it is your account. A guest account has no email, so the quickest way to delete one is in the app.
You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority, in particular where you live or work. We would be grateful for the chance to help first.
We offer these rights to everyone, wherever you live.
Children
Polyglot Pro is for people aged 16 and over. We don’t knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If you think a child under 16 has used the app, email us and we will delete their account.
Security
Data travels over encrypted connections. Each account can reach only its own data, stored files are private, and our service keys stay on our server. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach puts your data at risk, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we update the date at the top. If a change matters, for example a new company receiving your data, we tell you in the app or by email before it applies.
